To know proprietor Robert Reep—a talented artist in his own right whose work has appeared in numerous juried shows—even in passing is to know that he thoroughly delights in the discoveries that are to be found in the seemingly everyday, ordinary objects and experiences that many have long ago stopped taking a second look at. To visit with him in Chroma Gallery leaves you with the abiding sense that he is perfectly happy to be doing exactly what he’s doing, and is exactly where he wants to be doing it. Chroma Gallery is filled with original contemporary art by local and regional artists, folk art imports and abundant curiosities. A specialty arts magazine recently described the gallery as a feast for the eyes and senses, a kick in the pants and a knock upside the head (in a good way of course). They also do custom and museum quality archival framing and heirloom shadow-box framing.

Heights residents will tell you it’s not officially the holiday season until the brown paper comes down off the windows and the Heights Gallery holiday transformation is unveiled at their annual open house in mid November.

A children’s clothing store, with a great selection for him and her with hands-on service. Wide selection of baby and infant wear and baby gifts and preschool age books as well.
The Toggery is a Little Rock institution, one that dates back to its 1948 downtown opening. It moved to its spot on R street in 1962 and is the city’s oldest continuously operating children’s clothing store.
The Toggery continues to thrive in this era of big box retailers. Owner Phil Olinghouse, who has owned The Toggery for 29 years, lives by his golden rule of retail which is “never let a customer leave unhappy.” Along with the rest of this staff, he greets shoppers not as customers but as friends—and there are too many to count that he would characterize as “old friends.” “We have three and four generations of shoppers,” Olinghouse says.
Along with wife Penny, it is evident from the moment you step in the door that they all work hard to give each shopper a reason to come and come back again to the Toggery.

Perhaps better to be called Chez Terry’s now that new owner Lex Golden has given a decidedly French flair to the beautifully renovated and seemingly much more spacious interior. One almost feels as if they’ve been transported to the Left Bank.
Where else, along with Hestands’ in the Heights, can you go where your name’s all you need for neighborhood regulars. Terry’s is a gourmet food market, with in-house butchers that get you the perfect cut of your favorite meat every time. It’s a carnivore’s safe haven and coming soon, with a quaint French style bistro next door. For everything else, if Bubba and the rest of the staff can’t make it happen, even while polishing up on their French, then it simply can’t be had.
