Founder, Alden Burge began smoking turkeys in his backyard for friends and family after moving to Southwest Arkansas from Shreveport, LA. In 1962, along with his wife, Margaret, and their three children, he opened the original Burgess, where they sold barbeque, burgers and ice cream.
In 1977, Alden opened another location in Little Rock. Today they offer the same delicious sandwiches, catfish, and menu items as the Lewisville location. The store is also very popular for the holidays as people pick up turkeys and hams there. Somehow they managed to obtain the web address smokedturkeys.com and now ship their turkeys and ham far and wide across the globe. Open every day except Sunday.

A great neighborhood restaurant, where neighbors literally rub elbows in the casual, comfortable, homey confines. From their great burgers and fries to salads to steaks and daily seafood specials, often with a Cajun inspired flair. Owners Chris Tanner and wife Sam keep on the lookout for wine offerings by the glass that are both interesting and fairly priced. Be sure to check for the blackboard specials. It’s a true neighborhood hangout. Outdoor seating available but get there early, it goes fast.

Aptly named. The food is delicious, the presentation beautiful, the menu distinctive, the service perfect, the prices are right and the decor and personality bright.
Always a brisk lunch business and a favorite of many from all areas of town for dinner. Insiders Guide: ask for Tom’s special soup, an off the menu creation loosely based on a regular menu item. Your choice of rice noodles or regular noodles, extra vegetables, mushrooms, dry cabbage (or not) and tender chicken in a spicy (or not), broth. Tip: Cut the noodles before eating.
What can you say? Finally, Haagen Dazs comes to Little Rock. And lucky for us, owners Jacob and Valerie Chi opened it here in the Heights It’s Haagen Dazs in all its delicious splendor. With all the flavors, all the ways. The newest “Treat Shop” to find a home in the Heights, this yummy addition to the area is already a favorite of many. I find myself thinking about the peanut butter chocolate at least once each day.
Stop in to this locally owned ice cream extravaganza, say hello to Jacob and Valerie and their very friendly staff and I’ll bet you, if you ask nicely, or just look bewildered by the choices before you, they’ll let you try a few samples until you find your moment of ice cream zen. But find it you will.

Extensive sushi offerings plus a wide ranging selection of café specialties that are anything but token offerings to keep the non sushi lovers satisfied. Not only a wonderful selection of the freshest fish, but kobe steaks, chops and definitely one of the best burgers, yes burgers, to be had in town. Very, shall we say, cozy atmosphere with tight squeeze around the bar area during peak times; all just part of the atmosphere, at this Heights hot spot. Great lunch menu. Broad selection of wines by the glass, beer and full bar. Open Sunday 5-9.

Popular favorite evidenced by multiple locations around town including one each in the Heights and their new, spacious location in Hillcrest. Crispy thin-crust pizzas made in old-fashioned stone hearth ovens, frosty beers, subs and sandwiches, and heaping salads drowned in creamy dressing. From their Salad Supreme to their spicy Chloroplast Blast pizza, you won’t find their award winning original creations anywhere else. Both spots have outdoor patio dining.

A spin-off of the Boulevard Bread Co., this contemporary Heights café, located on the backside of the Heights Theatre next to Feinstein’s, would be right at home in Naples with the espresso machine, the tempting display of smooth and soft gelato in all the required flavors (pistachio, gianduia, creamy chocolate) and a wood-fired pizza over turning out textbook Italian ‘za with gorgeous blistered crusts and a light topping of choice and tempting ingredients. The call-your-own-ingredient salads are also quite popular. Beer/Wine. Open Sundays.
